Lessening Your Summer Cold

As a local business in the Tampa Bay Area, the crew at Happy Feet Plus knows a thing or two about summer colds. If you’ve ever experienced a cold during the warmer months, you understand just how miserable humidity and high temperatures can make it. However, one sunny, go-to elixir outshines the rest when it comes to getting through sickness quickly.

Using honey, ginger, and turmeric, this revitalizing recipe contains an incredible amount of antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Turmeric is rapidly becoming a supplement sensation, as more and more research is compiled demonstrating its ability to manage the spread of cancerous cells.

Turmeric comes from a root similar in shape and texture as the ginger root, but boasts a vibrant color similar to a carrot under its exterior flesh. The effects of the spice are a result of curcumin, the active ingredient in Turmeric that changes the molecular structure of the cell by literally “making it better.”

Turmeric only has a small amount of curcumin, so incorporate this shot into your daily regimen for best results. You can also find pure curcumin if you want to address medical stressors like chemotherapy.

It can be easily mixed into kefir water, a probiotic drink that you can find at your local health food store. However, with this specific recipe, adding ginger helps alleviate gastrointestinal discomfort and can address the nausea associated with “morning sickness” during pregnancy.

In addition, the mixture of honey and ginger acts as an excellent expectorant, providing instant relief from runny noses, cough, sore throat and other cold symptoms.

You Can Even Drink It Iced!

Before you begin, you’ll need a juicer and a hand grater. Also, when shopping for honey look for the darker batch. This means there is less sugar content and higher concentrates of antimicrobials in the honey. Manuka honey is honestly your best bet for high antioxidant counts and is pollinated from the Manuka plant in New Zealand.

For the turmeric, you can either use ½ inch fresh, grated root or a pinch of dry powder. Combine a ½ piece of grated ginger, two tablespoons of honey, the turmeric, and a ½ cup of fresh orange juice in a container. You can serve this immediately or chill it first. Get your scrunch face ready and shoot it back!
