Kenkoh Gives: Northern Light School

We founded Happy Feet Plus to help people, above all else.

You’ll hear those words repeated time and again by our founders, Jacob Wurtz and Jane Strong, and over the last few months we’ve been proud to experience some truly unique opportunities to help schools, communities, former athletes, and kids.

In the summer of 2018, we learned that former major league pitching great and 1971 American League MVP and Cy Young Award winner Vida Blue wears Kenkoh Massage Sandals to relieve everyday foot aches and pains and improve his energy levels. After some correspondence with Mr. Blue, we were introduced to Michelle Lewis, an extraordinary educator who founded Northern Light School in Oakland, CA in 1989. Northern Light School is a leading preschool to eighth grade non-profit organization that focuses on educating the whole child and offers need-based tuition assistance for children and their families throughout the San Francisco Bay area. Mr. Blue works with Michelle every year in a number of ways to help raise money for tuition assistance and other programs at the school.

It was through Michelle that Happy Feet Plus / Kenkoh was invited to take part in the 2018 Liberty Mutual Vida Blue Celebrity Golf Invitational in Oakland to benefit Northern Light School.

In 2016 and 2017, the tournament raised over $154,000 for the school.

At the event, we had the privilege of meeting with a number of prominent people from throughout the world of sports and the greater SF Bay area, and their reaction to Kenkohs was fantastic. Many noted the great arch support and revitalizing feel of the massaging nodules, and some even slipped their golf shoes and sneakers right off to try Kenkohs on the spot.

Ron Fellows, former cornerback for the Dallas Cowboys and LA Raiders noted, “These are really going to help my tired feet, and I’ll bet my wife would love them as well!”

One attendee, Elvis Gooden, CEO of the NFL Alumni, was so impressed by Kenkohs that he invited us to present on the health benefits of the sandals at the Alumni’s annual board meeting in Atlantic City, NJ.

We are the first outside group to ever be invited to take part in the alumni meetings.

Happy Feet Plus was indeed founded to help people, and Kenkoh, our pinnacle brand, continues to help soothe the aches and pains of former athletes and help them live with and recover from injuries suffered many years ago.

At Happy Feet Plus, we’re also very proud to help schools and communities, and we were able to directly contribute over $3500 to Northern Light School as a result of our participation in this great event.

Keep an eye out for many more fundraising efforts to come, and if you have a great cause that you think could do well to partner with Kenkoh and Happy Feet Plus, please contact us at 727-538-1111 x300 or mlabarge@happyfeet.com.
