Think! Leather Information & More

Leather Upper

Benefits include:

  • Porous, allowing your feet to breathe.
  • Hypoallergenic.
  • Moisture-absorbing.
  • Toxin-free - no risk of heavy metal allergies!
  • Highly sensitive feet

We buy our leathers mostly from certified tanneries in central Europe,, which we have researched in detail regarding prevailing environmental and social conditions. Rest assured that no cow, which has been grazing peacefully on a pasture in Tuscany, has to fade away due to the production of our shoes. Our leather is only a by-product of food processing. We don’t conserve our rawhides using chemical additives, to create transport shortcuts. Special salts and a faultless cold chain are enough to ensure the healthy transport of our hides.

Wherever possible, we use vegetable tanned leather and always where the foot is in direct contact with the material, thereby using only vegetable tanned leather for the linings. The bark for our tanning agent is extracted from profit-free plantations, an intelligent re-use of waste products. No tree from the primeval or tropical rain forest has to be cut down to aid in the production of tanning agents.

Vegetable tanning benefits humans as well as nature in that naturally tanned leather helps the foot to breathe and absorb humidity very well. Our leather remains in its natural state and we don’t treat it with aluminium, chrome, quicksilver or other poisonous substances. Furthermore, we only use dyes free of any heavy metal and we abstain from carcinogenic AZO colours. Factors like child labour, exploitation of employees, inhumane working conditions, unprotected handling of tannic acid and unstrained emissions of tannic acid into rivers are not part of our production process.

Apart from leather and recyclable PU used in our soles, we also utilise natural latex, a renewable raw material obtained from the "Hevea tree". By carving the bark, the latex seeps out, is collected in reservoirs, and will be processed further.

After approximately 25 years , when the tree cannot supply anymore sap, it will continue its natural growth. Natural latex is characterised by excellent insulation, high abrasion resistance and is also slip-resistant.

Our insoles are made of 99% pure cork, adjusting to the shape of the foot in a natural and healthy way.

Think! Design

Form follows function for "healthy" shoes.

"Healthy" shoes don't have to be ugly. They may however be a bit different. Different because they refuse to slavishly follow the dictates of fashion. They have instead grown and developed from basic anatomical and orthopedic principles.

The shoes we've created following this philosophy are fascinating in their unique design, from the uppers down to the unusual individual soles.

You either love Think! shoes or you don't, which is good, because some people like to swim against the current of anonymous mainstream design. Perhaps a little courage is required as well. Why don't you decide for yourself?

If the shoe fits, wear it!

A river takes uncounted ages to carve out a bed where it may flow freely. Our feet haven't got that much time in the space of their short lives. Instead, let's put them in a footbed that provides them with the freedom they need and that seamlessly works together with the complex interplay of muscles, tendons and bones that make up our feet.

That's why we take the greatest care not only while crafting each model, but also when we create the last, (a model for shaping the shoe). The last and the pattern determine whether your foot will feel good in the shoe or not. To make sure that the fit lasts for the life of the shoe, we leave the shoe on the mold for several hours, in good old shoemaker tradition.

Think! footwear is designed in Austria and produced in Europe.

Think! Care

Nature requires care. Since we use premium-quality natural materials, your shoes require a bit more care than conventional shoes made with chemically treated components.

Rest: Your shoes need their rest regularly and for at least 48 hours. Ideally in a shoetree to maintain their shape.

Drying: Never place shoes on heaters or radiators. It's better to stuff your shoes with newspapers to dry them.

Cleaning: At least once a week use a shoe cream, but under no circumstances "easy-shine" products which may dry out the leather.

Wearing: Please clean and waterproof before the first wearing. Use a shoehorn and never step on the heel to remove or put on your shoe.
