Dansko Community Involvement

Dansko is in the business of selling shoes, but not at the expense of future generations. They have a history of community involvement, volunteerism and ethical business practices – whether they are sourcing renewable materials worldwide, or conducting business at home. Their values are clear, they seek to:
  • Protect their community
  • Promote philanthropy
  • Minimize negative impact

Sustainability - Dansko has a company-wide commitment to reducing our environmental footprint. They have an aggressive recycling policy, which requires the support of every member of the Dansko family. Dansko believes that sustainable living is the right thing to do. In constructing their new 85,000sq ft building in Pennsylvania, Dansko has taken care to make use of countless eco-technologies, materials gathered from sustainable sources, as well as local supplies. They are proudly targeting gold LEED® certification for this new space, which is criteria set forth by the Leadership in Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System. Some features of their new facility include:
  • Vegetated roof to absorb rain water, minimize runoff and protect the natural watershed
  • Solar collection panels as an alternative energy source
  • Carpeting made from natural materials such as corn
  • Flooring and countertops made from 100% post-use recycled glass to divert it from the landfills

Giving Back - The Dansko Foundation awards grants, sponsored by staff members, to a wide range of organizations - encouraging all employees to become philanthropists.
Company grants are given to support non-profits that promote environmental and social responsibility. All full-time Dansko employees can participate in 16 hours of paid volunteer time per year. For every volunteer hour worked by an employee, the company donates the equivalent of their salary to that organization. Charities supported range from environmental causes to economically disadvantaged groups to those impaired by disease or physical limitations.
